Chess Game

She's the queen
You are the king
They are the knight and horse
And for some time I thought I was
A pawn; a simple soldier
A necessary sacrifice
In an attempt
To reach a bigger goal
But I have a much larger role
As you fawn over the queen
She pretends to see nothing but a friend
And the night and horse try to play both hands
I've learned
I am the clock
Forever recording the moves
Watching the proceedings
For when I run out of seconds
I know this game
Will come to a end with
A broken queen
A angry king
A horse and a knight
Unsure of who to fight,
But I will wait for the end
And keep my peace
Fore it is my job
To watch the plays
Even if I can see
The catastrophic checkmate.
